Duquesne University Master Plan Study

Duquesne University is located in the uptown section of the City of Pittsburgh.  Trans Associates was retained by WTW Architects and Duquesne University to determine the parking, traffic, and pedestrian impacts of the proposed components of the Duquesne University most recent 10-year Master Plan.  The Master Plan included addition of on-campus student housing, addition of academic space, addition of a student recreation center, construction of additional on-campus parking facilities, additions to the existing pedestrian walkways on the campus, modifications to access into, out of, and within an existing large parking garage on campus, and development of a detailed, campus-specific parking management plan for faculty, staff and students.

Trans' services for these studies included:

  • Data collection including pedestrian counts, parking inventory and accumulation counts, and traffic operations
  • Analysis of existing and future parking demand and traffic volumes
  • Evaluation of pedestrian access and safety, including the evaluation of campus enhancements including a pedestrian bridge over Forbes Avenue
  • Evaluation of sight distances at new access points, review of parking layouts, development of new parking layout and access configuration for parking garages, evaluation of truck loading conditions, and a mass transit analysis for Port Authority of Allegheny County bus routes and stops
  • Development of a campus-wide parking management plan.
