City of Butler Transportation Study
In response to complaints about traffic congestion and heavy truck traffic through Downtown Butler, PennDOT District 10-0 initiated a long-range traffic study encompassing the City of Butler and Butler Township. The goal of the project was to study existing and future traffic conditions in an effort to develop recommendations to improve traffic flow within the study area and to reduce the number of heavy vehicles within Downtown Butler. The long-range recommendations provided by the study would be utilized to develop a list of potential projects to be included in PennDOT’s 12-year statewide improvement program.
Trans Associates was responsible for a massive data collection effort, which was used to develop a local travel demand model for the study area. The travel demand model was critical in determining the potential effect of future travel patterns with the study area including future truck traffic patterns.
