Springfield High School Study
Springfield City Schools plans to construct a new high school in northern Springfield. The new high school is a consolidation of the two existing high schools and the new facility will serve about 2,400 students. The development site currently contains North High School as well as an elementary and middle school.
Trans Associates undertook traffic studies to define the ability of the supporting roadway system to properly accommodate traffic volumes generated by the elementary, middle and high schools. With high drop-off/pick-up activities (due to a limited amount of bus transportation), special attention was paid to peak arrival/departure traffic demands associated with school start and dismissal times. Recommendations were made regarding staggered start and dismissal times to suppress peak loads. In addition, Trans Assocaites defined necessary roadway system improvements and assisted the site architect with the layout of on-site parking and circulation systems.
